Maria KaliMa

Maria RN, MS, e-RYT 500, Functional Yoga Therapist, Developer of Functional Yoga Therapy

Maria is an Ayurvedic Practitioner, Faculty for Integrative Yoga Therapy, a Certified Fitness Trainer, and a Registered Nurse with a background in Women’s Health and Physical Rehabilitation. She leads Functional Yoga Therapy trainings in Tucson; at Kripalu in Lenox, MA & Pura Vida. Maria teaches anatomy and physiology and anatomy of movement for yoga teacher training programs, as well as advanced therapeutic yoga concepts.She was instrumental in the creation of a yoga therapeutics department at Canyon Ranch. Maria teaches at several Tucson studios, has a private yoga therapy and ayurveda practice and is also an invited guest instructor for numerous yoga conferences and gatherings.

During the program, Maria will lead a session on, Yoga Psychology for the Ayurvedic Doshas, an insightful and experiential learning format, utilizing self assessment, mudras, mantra and movement to explore the qualities and imbalances of each dosha. Through this exploration we will create our individual roadmaps of self-discovery to promote our doshic balancing. Maria will also be giving Ayurvedic Consultations.

Rose Kress

Rose RYT 500, LFYP-2

Rose began practicing yoga more than 15 years ago and has been teaching since 2004. In that time she has focused on the therapeutic aspects of yoga – for the body, mind and soul. Rose teaches class and workshops throughout the Tucson area and has been blessed to teach classes at The Crossings in Austin, TX, at Kripalu in Lenox, MA and at the Flagstaff Yoga Festival and Bisbee Yoga Expo under the guidance of her teacher, Amy Weintraub. Rose has also studied with Rama Jyoti Vernon and has taken the Funtional Yoga Therapy Training with Maria KaliMa. Rose is the Program Manager of the LifeForce Yoga Healing Institute and travels with Amy to assist her in LifeForce Yoga Practitioner Trainings.

Sue Dilsworth

SuePhD, RYT 500, LFYP -2, Certified Yoga Therapist

Sue is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Certified Yoga Therapist working in the Greater Grand Rapids area. Sue has worked as a psychologist in university settings, non-profit agencies and private practice for the past 12 years. Sue has trained extensively with Amy Weintraub (author of Yoga for Depression and founder of the LifeForce Yoga Institute) and has served as a faculty member for Amy’s LifeForce Yoga Training Institute. Sue received her Yoga Therapy (300-hour) certification from Inner Peace Therapy program. Sue incorporates the LifeForce philosophy along with Iyengar principles in her yoga practice. Clinically, Sue is a holistic health practitioner that establishes treatment protocols that are specifically designed to meet individual needs. Sue supports and encourages her clients to open their hearts to new opportunities and grow as they move through their personal journey. Caren Strait

CarenRYT 500, LFYP~2, Certified Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, LifeForce Yoga Practitioner, and Sound Body Yoga Therapist

Caren specializes in teaching those who have physical challenges. She has specialty training in Yoga for MS, brain injury, and is currently pursuing her Cancer Exercise Specialist certification. Caren finds the LifeForce Yoga techniques invaluable in her group classes, private sessions, and yoga therapy. Caren is on the faculty at the Stress Management Center of Nevada’s All About Yoga, a registered yoga school. Caren teaches a series of specialty workshops for 500-hr yoga teacher trainees.

Richard P. Brown

RichardMD, associate professor of psychiatry, Columbia University

Richard gives over 200 lectures every year. Coauthor of more than 90 scientific articles, books, and chapters, he is a certified teacher of aikido (4th Dan), qigong, yoga, and meditation. Dr. Brown’s neurophysiological theory explains the effects of yoga breathing, particularly for anxiety, depression, and PTSD. He teaches Breath~Body~Mind workshops for professionals, researchers, the public, and the 9/11 community (Serving Those Who Serve).

Patricia Gerbarg

PatMD, assistant professor in psychiatry, NY Medical College, graduate of Harvard Medical School and the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute

Patricia practices Integrative Psychiatry, combining standard and complementary treatments and researches mind-body practices for veterans and disaster survivors such as the Asia tsunami, 9/11 WTC attacks, and Gulf oil spill. Joy Bennett

Joy is a yoga therapist and owner of two “Joyful Breath Yoga Therapy” studios. She regularly offers LifeForce Yoga classes, as well as classes on trauma-sensitive yoga, yoga for chronic pain, fertility, and adult ADD at her studio in Swansea MA, in collaboration with staff professionals at Swansea Center for Psychotherapy. She has an established private practice in Providence, RI where she offers customized, one-on-one yoga therapy. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband, psychiatrist Irwin Bennett, MD, and various feathered and furry precious beings.

Joe Walter

Joe has been teaching yoga for 2 years. His teaching style has been influenced by Iyengar, Vini and Kripalu yoga. The blend of these schools with LifeForce Yoga creates a style that is a gentle flow with emphasis on breath, present moment awareness and cultivating an abiding sense of calm. Joe believes yoga can be beneficial for anyone and everyone on every level, body, mind and spirit. If you can breathe, you can do yoga. Joe has been a psychotherapist for 30 years and has a special interest in yoga as a therapeutic intervention. He has trained extensively with Amy Weintraub, ERYT 500 specializing in yoga for the treatment of depression and anxiety. Joe and his wife Kathy have been married for 29 years and have 2 adult children, Tim and Katia.

Kat Larsen

Kat is a LifeForce Yoga Practicioner and Registered Yoga Teacher. She is a recent graduate of the Iyengar Yoga Teacher training and has completed two 200Hour Yoga Teacher trainings. Kat currently teaches in the Hatha, Vinyasa, and Restorative styles of Yoga. Her teachings focus on the mind/body connection of yoga. Kat currently teaches at yogaHOPE, a nonprofit organization serving underserved women in the community. Shirley directs research at Patanjali Research Foundation, Haridwar, India www.patanjaliresearchfoundation.com. She is the head of the Indian Council of Medical Research Center for Advanced Research in Yoga and Neurophysiology in Bangalore, India. She researches the physiological effects of yoga, yoga for rehabilitation and health, and higher states of consciousness induced by meditation. She has published 3 books, and over 100 research articles. She practices yoga herself and has a firm belief that yoga can influence all aspects of life positively.

Kathryn C. Shafer

Kathryn is known for her work as a psychotherapist, educator, consultant, and practitioner of mindbody therapies for emotional and physical health. She conducts interventions and assessments for addicts and their families, is a certified yoga instructor, and has authored and conducted research on these and related topics.

In psychotherapy sessions, yoga classes, and mindbody retreats Dr. Shafer introduces participants to the YOGAFUN™ program. This individually designed healing program challenges “dis-eased” thinking and beliefs about life, relationships, and stress. Her areas of expertise in the addictions, trauma, and the emotions explore alternative and complimentary practices for children, teens, families, and relationships.
