SUMMARY:Keynote Speaker at the 2017 Integrating Yoga into Mental Health Care National Conference
DESCRIPTION:Online Registration \nJoin Amy in Pennsylvania when she presents the keynote address\, The Love in the Room: Self Care\, Other Care. \nAfterwards\, Amy will lead a hands-on workshop\, “When Mind–Body Practices Go Wrong: How to Match Clients with the Right Methods”\, where you will learn powerful practices for your self\, and for those you serve. \nHave you ever had clients try a mindfulness exercise that made them more anxious\, or get emotionally flooded when you asked them to breathe deeply? What about clients who are quick to tell you\, “I don’t like that breathing stuff!”? If you’re applying mind-body practices like pranayama breathing\, meditation\, mudras\, or mantras in your session\, it’s important to understand which practices are best suited to which conditions\, such as depression\, anxiety\, and disassociated states\, and what effects and possible abreactions these practices can evoke. You’ll learn to meet your client’s mood and how to: \n\nApply appropriate breathing and meditation practices based on their presenting disposition and diagnosis\nHelp clients learn breathing\, toning\, and gentle hand-gesture practices to self-regulate between sessions\nIncorporate simple yoga skills like adapted breathing and meditations in clinical settings\, even when clients express cultural\, religious\, or personal resistance to practicing yoga\n\nLifeForce Yoga® has been successfully utilized in many settings with diverse populations\, demonstrating its usefulness in relieving emotional distress and dysregulation. In the process of learning Yoga practices to help clients self-regulate and increase self-compassion\, you will be giving yourself the gift of self-care. Experience for yourself the transformational power of yoga and let it be the portal to healing for you\, your loved ones\, and for those you serve to enhance your therapeutic relationships. Return home empowered with your own practices and ready to share them with your clients. \nAmy Weintraub\,MFA\, e-RYT 500\, C-IAYT\, YACEP \n\nAmy Weintraub\, director of the LifeForce Yoga® Healing Institute and author of the bestselling Yoga for Depression (Broadway Books\, 2004) and the ground-breaking Yoga Skills for Therapists: Effective Practices for Mood Management (W.W.
