SUMMARY:Yoga for Mood Management: LifeForce Yoga Practitioner Training\, Part A – Experiential
DESCRIPTION:This Experiential workshop is open to all with yoga experience and is Part A of a 3-Part certification course to become a LifeForce Yoga Practitioner – level 1. Learn an empowering\, evidence-based Yoga protocol for self-care and to help students and clients focus\, relax\, and have greater access to feeling states. You will experience all aspects of LifeForce Yoga\, including pranayama\, kriya\, asana\, nada yoga (sound)\, bhavana (visual imagery) sankalpa (intention/affirmation)\, meditation\, and non-dual self-inquiry. \nThere will also be opportunities for practicing with one and other and receiving feedback from the faculty. For those who are already LifeForce Yoga Practitioners\, this can be taken as a refresher course. Yoga and health care professionals and general practitioners will learn strategies appropriate for a clinical setting that can safely release chronically held physical tension and repressed emotion. \nStudents of this course will: \n\nDesign one-on-one Yoga sessions for dysthymia (chronic depression)\, anxiety-based depression\, PTSD\, and bipolar disorder\nLearn breathing and meditation practices for addressing dysthymia and anxiety-based depression\nLearn how to add somatic strategies to clinical practice and Yoga classes to increase clients’ self-awareness\, self-acceptance\, self-esteem\, and ability to cope\nExperience techniques you can teach your clients and students to do at home\nPractice asanas (postures)\, pranayama and kriyas (breathing and cleansing)\, mantra (chanting)\, bhavana (development of the mind)\, sankalpa (resolve and intention)\, mudra (hand gestures)\, meditation\, therapeutic long holding of postures and non-dual strategies for working with negative self-talk\nTake home tools and confidence for working with individuals suffering from depression and anxiety\n\nRequired Reading: Yoga for Depression by Amy Weintraub (Broadway Books)\nRequired Practice: LifeForce Yoga DVDs & CDs\nRecommended Reading: Yoga Skills for Therapists (W.W. Norton) \n23 Contact Hours\, 13 Non-Contact Hours meet the Required 26 hours for Part A Certification.  This program is designed by Amy Weintraub and based on the practices in Yoga for Depression and Yoga Skills for Therapists. \nAssistant Faculty \nKat Larsen\, RYT-200\, LFYP-2\, Mentor\, Reiki Certified\n\nKat is a certified yoga teacher\, and LifeForce Yoga Level 2 Practitioner teaching in the Lakes Region of Western Maine and continues to consult in the Greater Boston area. She is a member of Yoga Alliance\, International Association of Yoga Therapists\, and Iyengar Yoga National Association of US. \nAs a breast cancer survivor Kat has unique insight into the physical and emotional impact living with a serious illness can have on your life. Kat integrates LifeForce Yoga teachings by inviting the student/client to meet their mood in the present moment. She inspires students to listen to their bodies\, move compassionately\, and bring awareness to what arises. Kat incorporates LFY practices into her classes and sessions with individuals\, which brings a sense of well-being and confidence to her clients/students both on and off the mat. She has worked extensively with women in recovery from addiction at Women’s Hope Program at the Shattuck Hospital in Boston. Kat has also worked with individuals healing from cancer\, fibromyalgia\, Crohn’s\, and those living with anxiety and depression. \nKat has assisted Amy at numerous workshops and is on the faculty to assist the LifeForce Yoga Level I Practitioner training held at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. She is a graduate of the Iyengar Teacher training program (374 hours)\, and has completed two 200-hour Yoga teacher trainings. Kat offers private instruction\, classes\, and workshops in LifeForce yoga\, Hatha\, Vinyasa\, and Alignment based yoga & healing restorative yoga practice. She has led meditation circles & classes in the vipassana  & metta (loving kindness) traditions. \nChitra Stern\nChitra is an Integral Yoga® teacher\, certified to teach Integral Yoga at beginners\, intermediate and advanced levels and also to teach prenatal Yoga. She has been teaching Yoga for 27 years in Australia and the USA across a wide range of settings\, including group and individual classes for both adults and children\, corporate classes and workshops\, Yoga retreats\, Yoga for pregnancy and birthing\, and Yoga teacher training programs. In early 2015\, Chitra also completed Lifeforce Yoga Practitioner Training levels 1 and 2. Chitra’s main focus in her teaching is to encourage students to find the practice that truly supports them and to offer the space in which participants can go deep within\, allowing the body and breath be the pathway to experiencing deep inner wisdom and joy.
