There are times in our lives when we need to compartmentalize to get through a stressful time. We tell ourselves that we will “deal with this later.” Or we may not acknowledge the feeling or the feared task, but instead we numb out. Our default numbing-out strategy might be an old unhealthy addictive pattern or it could be a “healthy” pattern like a spiritual practice. Even yoga, meditation and other spiritual practice may be a defense against feeling or an avoidance of responsibility.
Awakening means that we draw the strength from our practice and from our community to stay present to what is arising, even when it’s painful.
Awakening means that we are not swept away by the pain, but rather that we are aware enough to compassionately welcome and dialogue with the part of ourselves that is feeling the pain.
Awakening means that we don’t build boxes of distrust and fear around our hearts.
Awakening means that the walls fear built when our hearts were broken come tumbling down.
Awakening means we have breathing room.
Awakening means we have room enough to feel it all.
May this online community support us in fearless compassion for ourselves, our beloveds and all of Creation. Amen.
