Or is it just a lie that we tell ourselves so that we can sleep easy at night? What does it even mean to be stress-free? In this week’s video blog, Director Rose Kress talks about stress-free and how to get there.
A friend of mine and I were talking about home yoga practice and how good it is for mental health. She said would love to develop a home practice, but things were so stressful right now that she needs to wait until all of her stress is eliminated. Fat chance! How can you eliminate stress without a practice?
There seems to be this delusion going around that if we could just get things in order we wouldn’t be stress out anymore. How is that even possible? Life is an ebb and flow of experiences, some freeing and some constrictive. The only constant in life is change and that very change is the source of our stress. What we can do is find ease in the middle of this change.
Stress is a reaction that exists within the mind in response to a stimulus. We cannot control what happens around us, but we can control what happens inside the mind. This is what yoga is all about. It is a prescription for optimum mental health and well-being. The purpose of yoga is to still the waves of the mind and when those waves are still, you will know ultimate liberation and freedom. What are you waiting for?
