Gail Francisco interviews yoga pioneer, Amy Weintraub and LifeForce Yoga Program Director, Rose Kress about why they do yoga and how it helped with their depression and anxiety. Amy talks about how she was able to go off her depression medication because of her yoga practice and how her therapists handled it.
As a result of her experiences with yoga, therapy and depression, Amy wrote a pioneering article for Yoga Journal in 1999 called “Yoga, The Natural Prozac” which brought into people’s consciousness that yoga was more than just a physical exercise program. Here is a link to that articlehttp://www.yogajournal.com/health/133. It began the discussion about what else yoga could do and what the other components of yoga, mudra, meditation and mantra were doing for the body and mind.
Over the years, many people came to Amy asking her to teach and provide classes on these practices, which eventually turned into the LifeForce Yoga program today.
They also discuss how the LifeForce Yoga program is different from other yoga programs. Non-yoga teachers can take the training and use the techniques they learn as an adjunct to their professional practice. Health professionals that take this training will learn how to integrate asanas, mudras, pranayama, and mantras into an effective adjunctive treatment that will help you to be a better health professional with greater success that you and your clients can see quickly. You will learn techniques you can do in any location, without having a yoga mat.
