Stress and anxiety can be quite challenging, to say the least. When it arises as the result of a situation, it is best to focus our energy on the task at hand. Other times, anxiety can come at us in the most inopportune times, distracting our focus and attention from loved ones. Join Rose is this week Video Blog as she shares three tips for managing stress and anxiety.
Burn that Energy Off!
In yoga philosophy, anxiety is just excess energy. In LifeForce Yoga we start by burning that energy off. It can be as simple as shaking the body, bouncing, going for a walk, do some jumping jacks, or even a nice primal scream. Whatever you choose, start moving in the best way that you know how. The amount of time varies from person to person. It could be as short as 30 seconds to as long as a 15 minutes. General rule of thumb is five minutes of vigorous activity.
Bring in the Calming Practice
Next we want to engage in the practice that helps us to calm and balance. Again, there are many different ways to do this. It can be as simple as three deep breaths through the nostrils, a yogic three-part breath, lying down on the floor, soaking in a hot tub, a calming yoga practice, or a yoga nidra practice. You know what you like best when it comes to calming down!
After we have burned the energy off and brought in the calming practice, it is time to feel the effects of the practice. As you complete, feel the shoulders, the palms of the hands, and the fingertips. Sense the face, the lips, the nose, and the cheeks. Notice how the breath is moving in the body. Sense if you are feeling calmer, more present, even a little relaxed. If not, start the process again.
